IT WOULD MORTIFY YOU

Hey punk, do you have some change I can borrow?
I know about today, but I don't know about tomorrow

If you were to hear what they're saying behind your back
It would mortify you, it would mortify you

ROTTEN IN DENMARK

In high school she used to be the top motivator
Did splits for kicks with dudes who looked like Refrigerator Perry
In high school she used to be the top educator
Was an odd mix with the team like Tony Montana in Tucumcari
In high school she used to be the # 1 believer Taught us tricks that she learned from Saturday Night Fever

At Eton she fancied herself the top Terminator,
Watched Weird Science and dug Arnold Schwarzenegger
At Eton she used did the Hammer dance and caused a ruckus
Had a bodyguard who looked like B.A. Barracus
Watched The Breakfast Club and she dug the tube
She watched Nick at Night and dug Les Nessman's attitude
It's always rock solid when you're hangin' with the rock n' rollers

She went through a goth phase
Went through a punk phase
Went through a year-long, nihilist dark age
She's trying to tame the snake
She's trimming up the Eden
She's falling in the pool for some revival-style healing

It's always liberating when you're hanging with the liberators
It's always frustrating when you're hanging with the frustrators
It's always penetrating when you're hanging with the penetrators
It's always enervating when you're hanging with the enervators
It's always inspirational to hang with the instigators

She went to a private school
Then to a public school
Captain Joe rocked the boat
She took a dip in the pool

SUCKED IN BY THE SIN

He said it's coming back again
He said it's coming back again

I treated the body like a temple
Till I got sucked up by the sin

I'm sucking it in again
I'm sucking it in again

Diet coke and cigarettes
I feel my heart making death threats

Sugar snacks and pizza pets
Oh, damn those temptations

Look at all you people dancing
You get sucked in by the sin

Next weekend you'll be doing this again
Getting sucked in by the sin

TIDAL

If you don't like the front you should move to the back
And we'll provide the beat that makes the booty go bap
You got to be a sucker from the get go
You're like the hushpuppy placin' bets, bro

J-j-j-jump on the floor when you go for the wind
In the back of the house in the mouth of bind
The cause, the effect, the direction for the blind
Who need to come with me in a serious time

When you pack the attack in the rack of my mind
When go for the flow, we will roll out behind
With the modal jazz hollerin' tonight
A chance to trip the fantastic light

BREAKING FROM THE BULLET

You drove it like Evel Keneivel
And said you liked the mullet
I drove north just to console it
In its breaking like a bullet
But you said Johnny doesn't like me
And it's causing pain and misery
And he says these to things to Danny
That fester and start to scare me
When you needle like that, you dare me
And the snare drum always ensnares me
I wrote everybody off, even the men of the cloth
It got sweaty and hot, the rock mosh was like broth
Well, why do I care to reprimand Johnny
When he's damaging my rep with Danny?
If Danny is a loony and Johnny is a drunk
Then it doesn't really matter what's in the trunk
So it's the same as the high school reunion
Getting your ass whooped might be loony fun
There was never a thing for you to fear
Because at least you conquered the tears

BOXING

I stared at the pictures
I was hung up on the glow
Felt like a raging bull
Playin' piano like Fats Domino

100 push-ups on the basement floor
Play that piano for a few hours more

Boxing, yes, we're boxing
Get fit, here you go
Let's swing a few punches
Let's swing a few more
Stick 'em up
Man, stick 'em up
I'll play the piano

Like I'm boxing

Yes, like I'm boxing

BOMBED & BLUE

He was bombed out as hell
She was protected so well
She was cold in the dark
He was hot in the light
Chinese food troubles her mind
Chow Mien makes him unwind
She's a fatalist
He's an optimist
She's a pugilist
He's a conformist
He likes frat-funk
She likes the Hold Steady
She wants to jump in the deep
He says I'm not ready
He mows the lawn
She lets it grow
He loves Key West,
She loves the snow
She slept with 7guys
He slept with 30 girls
She's a career artist
He's a weekend artist
He votes red
She votes blue
She rides the bus
He drives an SUV
Her father's from Omaha
His father's from Carson City
He avoids her eyes
She stares deeply

MAN OR MONKEY

He was ambitious, he was unrestrained
He wanted to mix Tchaikovsky with Singin' In the Rain
To mix Bob Dylan with Ode to Joy
To mix Phil Spector with Mannish Boy

Monkey, monkey
Are you a man or a monkey?

You want to burn the wildest doughnut in the Hamptons
You want to spend two whole years camping
You're aligned with P. Diddy and his thugs
You're celebrated and maligned, but who's got the drugs?

Monkey, monkey
Are you a man or a monkey?

You love rock and you love to scream
And you love the gleam of a potent dream
So, don't let the shower spoil the funk
You've got the greasy blue junk in the trunk

Monkey, monkey
Are you a man or a monkey?

CROCODILE

Andy Riggs had it big
Because he swung a big twig
Amongst the Big Mac, Kit Kat,
And Muskrat hip

Saw him at the Crocodile,
We got buck wild,
And stayed drunk for a while
But then the smile left his lips

This wasn't directed at me
We were drinking green tea
As the drummer from
A famous band walked by
They went to trio from quintet
When they played with us, you bet
They said they weren't done yet
Their poster in the bathroom caught my eye

I told this to Riggs
And he didn't understand,
He had a collared shirt on,
I had a rum n' coke in my hand

I went to pay for the drinks
But I couldn't find my debit card
I'd left it at in a downtown bar
Because I got too drunk, as evidenced by my forehead scar

So I told him that though I was afraid
Of not achieving my potential,
I was too far-gone to go straight, to sell real estate,
Besides, what more could a few coins in my purse really do?

He said, "My purse is an expression of values
Like my SUV, come in and ride with me, you'll see
That what I do is what I am,
What I wear and drive is me!"

"And there's no reason you should feel
Any pressure to compete"
I said, "I know, but if that were the case,
Why would I respect doctors and lawyers?"

"They are the people who studied harder than I did,
I never wanted to be either of those things as a kid
I wanted to be rock star and rock hard and go far
And I rarely looked twice at a brand new car"

"Am I wrong for not caring about the couch I own?
I fixed the place up, now I leave it alone
Last night, Riggs, I went to a five-star restaurant,
Then headed to the rock club for another quick jaunt"

"And it didn't feel good; the food was too rich,
I should have eaten at Taco Bell if I wanted to get a fix
I get confused, but there's one thing I know well:
That I can always depend on the idea of rocking well"
